DIY Rainbow Christmas Wreath

No items found.

Earlier this Fall, I kept seeing so many cute rainbow pumpkin wreaths and wanted one for our house. Well, the time came and went to make one (also…it seemed a little out of my budget) and I didn’t get it done. When I started dreaming-up Christmas crafts and decorations, I knew I was going to make a rainbow wreath of some kind happen.

I knew I was going to thrift most of the materials, so the wreath ended up being a culmination of pieces I was finding at the thrift store. I was able to find a nice garland wreath on a wire frame, plus a bunch of faux flowers and extra decorative picks, from someone else’s sad-looking Christmas project of years-gone-by. If you’re not into thrift shopping or buying second hand, you can certainly buy all of the supplies from a retail store as well. I wanted to keep this Christmas decorating project as budget-friendly as I could, so thrifting worked for me!

The first thing I did was to clean-up the wreath. It had a bunch of extra decorative stems and pieces on it that I didn’t want. I pulled all of them off and ended up using the pinecones on the other wreath I did a makeover on as well—it was a win-win!

Once I was done gluing the poinsettias on, it was time to sprat paint! I used 9 colors #gifted from Colorshot spray paint (Farmer’s Daughter, Stiletto, Summer Pedicure, Orange Slice, With A Twist, Kale, Emoji, Island Girl, and Stamped Passport), as seen on Making It and now being sold at Home Depot. I lined them up around the wreath to get the right color combo that I wanted and to get the spacing right for each color. I didn’t tape anything off on this. All I did was spray one section and then moved onto the next. The paint did a great job of staying in the spot it needed to, without too much over-spray. I made sure to get in the nooks and crannies as much as I could, including in the center of the wreath, on the edges, and under the leaves of the poinsettias.

And that’s it! Couldn’t be an easier—or more fun—project! Also…it cost me almost no money! I’ll bet I have about $5 into the materials, excluding the paint. This is such a budget-friendly DIY because I would imagine you have most of the items on-hand already…you just need to pull them apart and reimagine them! Also, it’s a great way to use up old spray paint…since you just need a little of each color.

I’ve gotten great feedback on this project so far! I think more and more people are wanting to add color to their homes. It makes us happy when skies are grey and brings everything to life…even during the cold winter months…I’m looking at you January. I think this wreath could stay up year-round…since there’s nothing particularly Christmassy about it…other than the poinsettias. Since they’re painted rainbow colors…who would even notice??

If you decide to try this project out for yourself, I’d love for you to share it on Instagram and tag ME so I can see!

I can technically do a lot of work from the comforts of our house, ie: in my pj’s and sans bra, but sometimes I need to get out of the house to spark some creativity and refuel my tank with a delicious coffee. During the warmer months, my go-to is an iced coffee, and while I love the sugary versions

“I am a newer member to Hilary’s Thrifting Membership group and I am a novice to thrifting. But Hilary breaks the process down and provides so many tips and ideas, which is so helpful, since starting can be overwhelming. She suggests you create a plan - a list of items you are searching for and provides hints to help you be successful in your thrifting adventures. My favorite benefit is when she shares her trips, and provides ideas and inspiration slides to go along with the item, so you can see her vision/idea. If you have ever been interested in trying thrifting and you join the Thrifting with Hilary Membership Group, you won’t be disappointed. She is genuine, funny, and makes every outing and video fun!”— Jayna E.
