Store-bought dry shampoos are full of toxins that are harmful to our health. How about making your own instead? It’s easy to do and you might already have the ingredients in your cupboards! I’m sharing all the details with you to make your own non-toxic dry shampoo.

DIY non-toxic Dry Shampoo

Several months ago, it was all over the news how many popular dry shampoos are full of cancer-causing toxins! I was so thankful that I’d already stopped using them, but felt led to share with others so they could make the switch too. Making your own dry shampoo couldn’t be easier…you’ll wonder why you haven’t done it already!

why you should make your own non-toxic dry shampoo

I’ve been trying for years to clean up the products that we use in our homes and on our bodies. It can be a daunting process for lots of reasons.

First, it’s hard to think about switching out everything you use. Where to even start? While that’s a question for another day, one tip I have is that when one thing runs out, try and replace it with a cleaner option. That way you’re not trying to do everything at once.

Secondly, it can be pricey! Buying all new non-toxic products for your home and beauty routines can add up. Unfortunately for us as consumers, a lot of healthier products seem to cost more and making the switch all at once can put a hit on your bank account.

Lastly, it can be hard to know what to buy and use. There is always conflicting information, no matter where you look, so figuring out exactly which products are safe to use can be a difficult task.

Luckily for you, the ingredients to make this dry shampoo are readily available (you might already have them already), are not expensive, and are clean!

Light Hair:

Add: 4 T arrowroot powder or cornstarch, 1-2 tsp cocoa powder, and 5 drops of essential oils (if you choose to use them) to your container and mix — that’s it! I double my recipe since I already have all the ingredients out. I use Kidpower Kid Scents oil blend from Young Living in mine. It smells yummy like a creamsicle!

DARK HAIR:

Add: 3 T arrowroot powder or cornstarch, 2-3 T cocoa powder, and 5 drops of essential oils (if you choose to use them) to your container and mix — that’s it! I use Kidpower Kid Scents oil blend from Young Living in mine. It smells yummy like a creamsicle! I also haven’t made the recipe for dark hair because I have lighter hair, but you could totally tweak this to suit your needs.

tips for using non-toxic dry shampoo

-Apply to your hair in sections, so you get the best coverage.

-Apply and let sit a while before brushing through, so it can absorb oil better.

-Apply at night, so it can work while you sleep.

“I am a newer member to Hilary’s Thrifting Membership group and I am a novice to thrifting. But Hilary breaks the process down and provides so many tips and ideas, which is so helpful, since starting can be overwhelming. She suggests you create a plan - a list of items you are searching for and provides hints to help you be successful in your thrifting adventures. My favorite benefit is when she shares her trips, and provides ideas and inspiration slides to go along with the item, so you can see her vision/idea. If you have ever been interested in trying thrifting and you join the Thrifting with Hilary Membership Group, you won’t be disappointed. She is genuine, funny, and makes every outing and video fun!”— Jayna E.
